Followings Foundation
Our story so far
Our journey as a charity, working alongside our strategic partner,
Busubi Empowered Communities, and treasured community of volunteers and donors.
2017

The first team of fundraisers travel to Busubi and the building contract on BEC Community and Learning Centre is signed and paid for.
2018
BEC Learning Centre building
is completed in March and the second and third fundraising teams travel to Busubi.
Solar power installed at the centre,
furniture is built and 3 sewing machines and 9 computers are purchased.
Free classes commence at the Centre—Tailoring, Sports, Music/Dance/Drama, Agriculture and Computer Studies.
A 30,000L water tank is constructed alongside beautifully maintained gardens. An agricultural tools library is established and a high-powered projector installed for teaching in person and via Zoom.

The fourth group of fundraisers travel to Busubi.
The centre celebrates 1st birthday.
BEC is accredited by the Directorate of Training to issue nationally recognised certificates of study.

2020-2021
Fifth trip is abandoned due to COVID-19. Wages continue for BEC Centre staff, even as BEC is closed for five months and again for another six during government enforced lockdowns. Our commitment to our partners pays off with a successful reopening. Students return in good numbers under COVID safety protocols.
2020-2021
Hydroelectric generated electricity is connected to the Centre and extended to 35 homes in the community.
This connection and extension funded by Followings.
2023
BEC Community and Learning Centre celebrates 5th birthday.
Over the 5 years, Followings and BEC have been greatly supported by many wonderful people.
