A new chapter has been created in the Busubi Empowered Communities' (BEC) book of diverse skills. The BEC team hosted a pilot initiative, a book making training program, which was generously delivered by the Inner Wheel Club of Kinoni.

With the vision Books Built by Hands, Dreams Built for Life, the program exceeded expectations and demonstrated the community’s enthusiasm for learning and innovation.

The training program attracted 64 trainees—double the expected number. Despite limited materials, trainees embraced the learning process with determination. John Ssentamu, BEC Director, shared:

“The book making training program has been such a huge success. All in all we have had a successful pilot training and all trainees have expressed readiness to continue with the project.”

Next Steps:

With strong interest from participants, plans are already underway for a follow-up session. John explained:

“It has been agreed that we organize another training program to act as assessment and then we organize girls to train them how to do business with book making.”

This next phase will not only refine technical skills but also introduce essential business training, ensuring that participants can transform new knowledge into sustainable income-generating opportunities.

At Followings Foundation, we are delighted to see all the ways that the BEC learning centre is used to foster community and growth. Followings Creative Director, Rebecca Boon, commented on the workshop:

"I am continually impressed with the curiosity and passion for learning shown by trainees and leaders at BEC."
"Without strategic partnerships and the support of our regular donors, these events just wouldn't be possible—THANK YOU."

The pilot book making training has opened an exciting new pathway for learners. With the enthusiasm of trainees, guidance from the BEC and Inner Wheel teams, and continued support from donors and partners, this project has the potential to create lasting impact.
